Bombardier welcomes Classic Lear Jet 23-003 back to the hangar where its story began
There’s no doubt that Bill Lear launched the business aviation industry when he unveiled the first Learjet 23, which first took to the skies over Wichita, Kansas, on Oct. 7, 1963.
Since then, “Learjet” has become synonymous with private business travel, and Bombardier is proud to have continued the legacy and support for the global fleet since 1990.
Today, Bombardier is pleased to announce it has reached an agreement with the Classic Learjet Foundation to house Classic Lear Jet Serial Number 23-003 at its facility in Wichita. On May 25, 2023, the fuselage was moved into Building 14, the former Learjet delivery centre adjacent to Wichita’s Eisenhower National Airport. The wing will be soon be moved to the same building.
While Learjet inspires fans around the world, perhaps its most passionate supporters are the members of the Classic Learjet Foundation, a non-profit group that includes current, retired, and former Learjet employees. The group plans to showcase Lear 23-003 on a limited basis and welcomes donations for its restoration. Donors can deduct contributions they make to the Classic Lear Jet Foundation under IRC Section 170.
More than 2,000 Learjet aircraft continue to move people, facilitate business dealings, and generate a tremendous economic impact across the globe.
Bombardier and its team of Learjet experts is proud to support this legendary aircraft family and is committed to assisting owners and operators as they fly into the future.
