Brake Caliper cleaning procedure

Effectivity: All Learjet 40/45/70/75 aircraft

ATA 12-servicing

A new cleaning procedure has been introduced to help reduce the frequency of hydraulic leaks on the brake assemblies of Learjet 40/45/70/75 aircraft. Information regarding this procedure is located on the Customer Portal by RIL SF00046202 “Brake Caliper Cleaning Procedure” until incorporation into Chapter 5 and 12 of the AMMs.

This procedure was generated to help reduce the occurrences of brake caliper oring leaks from the pistons, which is the leading cause for removal. Dirt and debris accumulate in the piston bores, accelerating wear of the sealing orings, increasing the potential for leaks and early removal of the brake assemblies.

The procedure will be incorporated into Chapter 5 (Unscheduled Inspections). The instructions in Chapter 12 outline the simple use of mild soap and water for the removal of foreign debris. Operators should perform the cleaning if exposed to environments that produce contaminates such as elevated levels of runway deice chemicals, dirt and debris and may consider periodic cleaning if experiencing leaks.
