Frequent failures of Avionics Cooling Fan (ACF) PN 604-96005-1 (VPN AE0607G00), manufactured by Safran Ventilation Systems, led Bombardier to investigate the reason behind the removals.

Most ACF removals were due to excess noise, caused by worn shaft bearings, which can be heard from the cockpit.

To provide operators with an alternate ACF option, the Illustrated Parts Catalogs, referenced below, were revised to include ACF PN 604-96001-1 (VPN 035703500), manufactured by Ametek.

  • Challenger 605 IPC (Revision No. 64), dated June 2, 2022

  • Challenger 650 IPC (Revision No. 26), dated June 2, 2022

This Ametek ACF is not a new valve. It was previously installed on the Challenger 604 aircraft, with a proven reliability record over the years. In addition, this ACF is a drop-in unit requiring no changes to the electrical and mechanical interfaces.
