Passenger oxygen mask maintenance requirements

Effectivity: Learjet 40/45/70/75 aircraft

ATA: 35 - Oxygen35 - Oxygen

By: Jeff Green – Learjet maintenance programs

Bombardier would like to clarify passenger oxygen mask maintenance requirements to avoid confusion with crew oxygen masks. Unlike crew oxygen masks, there is no replacement or overhaul requirement in the Learjet manufacturer’s recommended maintenance program for passenger oxygen masks.

In accordance with Safran Avox Systems SIL-35-123, related to Part Number Series 289-601 Passenger Supplemental Oxygen Mask Assemblies, the shelf life of the passenger oxygen mask is six years from the date of manufacture when continuously stored under certain conditions. The mask should be stored in a clean, dry area in the following temperature and humidity ranges: a temperature between 50°F and 86°F (10°C to 30°C) and a relative humidity between 5% and 95%.

As stated, there is no replacement or overhaul requirement for these masks. The masks can remain in service indefinitely as long as they pass visual inspections. On Learjet aircraft, these visual inspections are conducted during the operational check of the oxygen system which is part of the Learjet manufacturer’s recommended maintenance program.
