Bombardier launches paid apprenticeship program in Wichita in collaboration with WSU Tech

Bombardier recently announced a new apprenticeship program in collaboration with WSU Tech, that is designed to produce future airframe and powerplant (A&P) technicians at the site. It is the first state-registered A&P technician apprenticeship program and was made possible through a grant funded by the state of Kansas. The first cohort of students started just last month, on January 15, 2024

During the two-year paid apprenticeship program, students will complete hands-on instruction at Bombardier’s Wichita site and in-class training at WSU Tech. They will have the opportunity to learn from experienced instructors and aviation maintenance leaders, as well as gain valuable knowledge of Bombardier’s family of world-class business jets.

Upon successful completion of the program and Federal Aviation Administration exams, students will be certified as an A&P technician. From there, they will convert to a regular full-time position at Bombardier, expanding the company’s technician roster and enabling the delivery of more timely OEM maintenance services.

As a full-time employee, they receive competitive hourly rates, annual bonus opportunities, paid overtime and shift premiums, vacation, paid holidays and personal days off, training and skills development, and a comprehensive employee benefits package.

“Apprenticeship programs like this provide students with a pathway to new and exciting opportunities, and Bombardier is proud to help pave the way for workforce development in Kansas by investing in local talent,” said Tonya Sudduth, Head U.S. Strategy, Bombardier. “We are committed to serving the next generation of workers by equipping them with the skills and knowledge they’ll need to succeed.”
