Bombardier unveils Step C Upgrade for Global aircraft equipped with Honeywell avionics

Owners and operators of Bombardier Global Express, Global XRS and Global 5000 aircraft are now eligible for the Step C Avionics Upgrade for the Primus 2000 XP – the latest in Bombardier’s stepped approach to modernizing selected Global cockpits.

Designed to enhance pilot to air traffic control (ATC) communications, the Step C Avionics Upgrade consists of the Honeywell CD-830, CMU Mk II+, VDL Mode 2 radio, CVR software upgrade and IAC software upgrade. It brings PM-CPDLC / ATN-B1 (Link 2000+) and FANS 1/A+ capabilities to the aircraft, as well as FAA U.S. Domestic En Route FANS CPDLC eligibility.

This upgrade package also resolves obsolescence issues with the CDUs and DataLink, as well as being fully compatible with the previous stepped enhancements, such as DU-875s LCP Primary Flight Displays, featuring SVS, and the RDR-7000 next-gen Weather Radar.

Step C benefits include smoother operations in Continental European ATN-B1 airspace, optimized ATC prioritization, improved communications between pilots and ATC, and alignment with FAA improvements for CPDLC departure clearances. In addition, the control display units incorporate sub-systems such as SATCOM, all controlled by a touch-screen user interface.

Bombardier’s Step C Avionics Upgrade for selected Global aircraft is now available at Bombardier Service Centres and installation takes approximately 15 days. The upgrade includes new line replaceable units (LRUs) covered by a 30-month Honeywell warranty.
