Safety Talks return in 2022 with a focus on sound approach

Bombardier’s popular Safety Talks are back in 2022, and this year, the series kicked off on Feb. 17 with an engaging presentation from Bombardier Demo Pilot, Franco Pietracupa, entitled, “To Circle or Not to Circle? That is the question…”  

Throughout this awareness seminar, Pietracupa challenged aviation experts to answer a series of important questions, including whether today’s pilot training is adequate; are Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in line with reality; and are we assessing risk correctly?  

Circling approaches have been around since the dawn of instrument flying. Yet every year, this hybrid combination of an instrument approach with visual maneuvering continues to be very prevalent in aviation accidents statistics, too often with fatal consequences. Is it time to rethink this practice?
