Battery Disconnect/Reconnect FCOM task introduction

Effectivity: Global Express aircraft

ATA 24

Bombardier would like to inform operators of a new task available in the Flight Crew Operating Manual 1 (FCOM) 07-19 – Battery Disconnect/Reconnect procedure, which will allow flight crews to perform this task without the need of maintenance personnel.

The aircraft batteries play an essential role in aircraft safety. The condition of the batteries must be verified regularly in order to ensure proper functionality and integrity. When the aircraft is parked for up to seven days, Bombardier recommends following the Short-Term Parking Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) TASK: 10-11-00-587-801.

This task advises, among other recommendations, to disconnect the avionics and the APU batteries when the aircraft is parked for more than two days. Disconnecting the batteries will help maintain the batteries at full capacity.

Before the introduction of the FCOM task, only the AMM TASK: 24-32-00-040-801/802 was available to disconnect the batteries and it is known that the AMM task requires maintenance personnel to perform this work. Knowing that the Global Express may fly to some remote locations, having a maintenance personnel available to perform the AMM task is not always possible and, on some occasions, could lead to the batteries discharging prematurely, creating Aircraft On Ground (AOG) situations.

The new FCOM TASK: 07-19 – Battery Disconnect/Reconnect procedure, will allow the flight crew to disconnect and reconnect the batteries themselves wherever the aircraft is located and at any time of the day. This will help keep the batteries in optimal conditions for APU starting and emergency requirements.
