Challenger 604 FMS CDU-6000 and RTU-4000 obsolescence

Effectivity: Challenger 604 aircraft

ATA: 34

By: Richard Lanthier – Avionics, Technical Services, Challenger Series

The Collins CDU-6000 and RTU-4000 installed on Challenger 604 aircraft will no longer be available for rental exchange by Collins and Bombardier imminently. The CDU-6000 and RTU-4000 are Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) technology-based, and these types of CRT are no longer being manufactured nor procurable anymore.

As communicated by Collins in 2019, the CDU-6000 and RTU-4000 repairs will be supported by still available used serviceable parts. Unfortunately, last November, Collins announced that they are rapidly running out of serviceable parts. For this reason, and effective immediately, Collins Rental Exchange program will no longer offer CDU-6000 and RTU-4000 exchanges. However, Collins and Bombardier will continue to support repair requests if the serviceable components are available to complete the repair. We have been informed that this obsolescence issue will also affect the EFD-4077 display on a near term horizon.

To mitigate the Challenger 604 CRT obsolescence and any other Pro Line 4™ obsolescence, Collins has developed the Challenger 604 Fusion™ STC which partially removes the old Pro Line 4™ avionics suite and replaces its components with the new Pro Line Fusion flight deck. This STC has now been installed on more than 90 Challenger 604 aircraft worldwide. Join the many customers who have embraced the benefits of the Challenger 604 Pro Line Fusion™ upgrade, for example:

  • Modernized flight experience through advanced graphics, configurable windows and a one level down touch screen interface

  • Full GPS approach capability, including localizer performance with vertical guidance (LPV)

  • Synthetic Vision System, ADS-B OUT V2 and 35% more display screen area

  • FANS 1/A+, LINK 2000+, MultiScanTM Weather Radar and SXM Weather
