Bombardier would like to remind customers that it uses the Rockwell Collins Checklist Tool (RCCT) to build generic Electronic Checklists (ECL). The ECL function adequately supports the current Airplane Flight Manual (AFM) but will require expanded capabilities to support future ECL datasets. Given the expected increase in ECL dataset size, the following changes in ECL development are foreseen:
ECL developers must be aware of dataset limits: These limits are monitored by the RCCT during editing sessions and require a developer to correct issues when they occur.
The development of a tool to replace the RCCT: While the RCCT is a mature product, there are no plans to upgrade this tool. Collins Aerospace has indicated it will no longer support the product after July 2023¹.
Bombardier has included a new section within the Electronic Checklist Customization Guide² to list the limits associated with the ECL function. The new “Limitations” section discusses 10 parameter types monitored by the RCCT tool. Of particular interest are the 10,000-line items and 25,000 lines of text monitored by the tool. Generic ECL loadsets found on the Customer Portal³ respect these limits, but any plans on customizing the datasets must consider these same limitations.
¹ To alleviate the obsolescence of the RCCT tool, Bombardier recommends that customers update their checklist using a new web-based editing tool from Collins Aerospace called Electronic Checklist Management Tool (ECMT).
² The ECMT is a plugin within the Collins Aerospace Configurable Avionics System Environment Configuration Management (CASE CM) tool suite to facilitate the creation of electronic checklist files for aircraft.
