Garmin Phase IID+/IIIA Service Bulletins

Effectivity: Learjet 70 and Learjet 75 aircraft

ATA 31

Learjet has released the next iteration of the Garmin G5000 software upgrade primarily to address FAA AD 2021-08-15 for the GTS 8000 TCAS processor.

FAA AD 2021-08-15 addresses the TCAS processor unit issuing resolution advisories (RAs) when there was no risk of collision or loss of separation between aircraft exists. The FAA determined if a false RA is annunciated where there are three or more aircraft in the area, an unsafe condition could occur due to a loss of separation by reacting to the false RA.

The following service bulletins provide the terminating action for FAA AD 2021-08-15 for the Garmin GTS 8000 TCAS Processor that is part of the G5000 avionics suite.

Service bulletins 70-31-14 and 75-31-14, installation of Phase IID+, are for aircraft with Phase II G5000 software. The prior or concurrent requirement for these bulletins is the installation of Phase IID G5000 software installed during production or by service bulletins 70-31-09 or 75-31-09. The Phase IID+ G5000 software only installs the upgraded GTS 8000 TCAS Processor software to satisfy the requirements of the FAA AD. There are no other software differences between Phase IID G5000 software and Phase IID+ G5000 software. Flight crew differences training is not required for this software load.

Service bulletins 70-31-15 and 75-31-15, installation of Phase IIIA, are for aircraft with Phase III G5000 software. The prior or concurrent requirement for these service bulletins is the installation of Phase III G5000 software installed during production or by service bulletins 70-31-11 or 75-31-11. In addition to the GTS 8000 TCAS Processor software upgrade, there are other changes that have been incorporated into Phase IIIA.

Some of the changes incorporated in Phase IIIA G5000 software are:

  • Takeoff VT+40 reset logic updated

  • Updated Glideslope (GS)/Glidepath (GP) transfer logic to minimize pitch up or down when capturing GS/GP

  • Several updates to TOLD logic

  • Added RF legs for RNP procedures

The compliance date for the FAA AD is May 17, 2023; the time of compliance for the applicable service bulletin for your aircraft is May 2023.
