Nice HD Scroll Wheel Switch Panel (SCW1010-00X-001) - Replacement Key Caps

Effectivity: Challenger 350 aircraft

ATA 44

Bombardier would like to inform operators and maintenance personnel working on the Challenger 350 aircraft equipped with the Lufthansa Technik (LHT) nice HD Cabin Management System (CMS) that we have observed paint cracks on the key caps of the Scroll Wheel switch panel. An Engineering Bulletin (EB) to replace the key caps (SCW1010-00X-001) is now available.

Certain SCW1010-003-001 and SCW1010-004-001 key caps, from serial numbers 000001 up to 002099, may show signs of paint cracking over time. This cracking would appear like spider webs on the key caps (Figure 1) and it would allow the backlight to bleed through on the area around the symbol (Figure 2).

The EB SCW1010-EB44-0859 provides the instructions required to replace the key caps affected with newer key caps as these are manufactured using a different paint process. Operators should refer to the EB for the part numbers of the new key caps to order. The key caps order needs to be placed with Bombardier Parts Services. If a single key cap on a SCW1010 switch panel needs to be replaced, LHT and Bombardier Technical Services recommend that all four (4) key caps get replaced with the newer ones to ensure a uniform appearance. The replacement key caps are offered free of charge for aircraft in and out of warranty on SCW1010 panels in the specified serial numbers range.

Bombardier does not pay for the labour required to replace the key caps. If SCW1010 panels are in the affected serial number range and do not show signs of paint cracking, there is no need to proactively replace the key caps. Should you require more information on the LHT nice CMS, please contact your Bombardier Field Service Representative (FSR) or the Customer Response Centre (CRC) 24/7 at 1-866-538-1247.
