Notice of Challenger XM Graphical Weather Database anomaly

Effectivity: Challenger 650 aircraft

ATA: 46-21

By: John Robertson – Technical Services

This article is intended to inform operators, pilots and maintenance personnel of the following condition:

A Challenger 650 fleet operator has reported random drops of the XM Graphical Weather (GWX) Database. The fault messages posted on the Multi-Function Displays (MFDs) read GWX FAULT and/or TFR FAULT. See Figure 1 for an example. The faults have been reported in both ground and flight phases.

Figure 1

The affected aircraft have non-TSO File Server Application (FSA-5000) software part number 810-0001-750 and File Server Unit (FSU-5010) part number 822-1543-201 installed.

Reloading the XM Graphical Weather Database in accordance with AMM 46-20-01-970-804 resolves the issue when it occurs.

Bombardier, the operator, and Collins Aerospace are working together to understand and resolve this anomaly. If your aircraft experiences a similar issue, a fault assessment is requested to enhance data collection.

Bombardier needs operators' help to gather more information about this issue. If you experience this anomaly, the following information is requested:

  • Specify if the aircraft was airborne or on ground when the GWX FAULT and/or TFR FAULT occurred and describe the conditions

  • Specify the departure and arrival airport

  • Specify the troubleshooting performed for each case

  • Specify the FSA and FSU software/hardware part numbers

  • Provide the MDC fault history report available at this date (must be included)

All information should be sent to: john.richmond.robertson@aero.bombardier.com
