TSSA-4100 (Traffic Surveillance System Application) PN 810-0052-110 – TCAS nuisance failure

Effectivity: Global 5000 GVFD/5500/6000/6500/Global 7500 aircraft

ATA 34-43

Bombardier was recently contacted for a Traffic Surveillance System TSS-4100 issue where both TCAS FAIL and XPDR #1 FAIL amber Crew Alerting System (CAS) messages, associated with Onboard Maintenance System (OMS) Code 3443002TSS, were posted during flight. After initial troubleshooting was performed without being able to duplicate that event, it was noticed that the TSSA-4100 configuration software had this information (Figure 1).

Back in February 2019, Collins Aerospace released Service Information Letter (SIL) TSSA-4100-19-1 against TSSA-4100 Part Number (PN) 810-0052-110 associated to a nuisance failure. This failure occurs randomly once every 100 to 600 times the TSS-4100 either powers up or comes out of standby resulting in a Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) failure and can be cleared through a power cycle.

A later software version of TSSA-4100 PN 810-0052-110 was released to improve this condition. Refer to SIL TSSA-4100-10-1 revision 12 or later, for the updated CRC32 information: SYSIO - C5D9410D and TRAFFIC - F42B9E20.

Since the TSSA-4100 software is field loadable, an update can be easily done on the aircraft via associated Aircraft Maintenance Manual/Publication (AMM 34−43−04−970−802/AMP BD700-AJ46-31-00-02AAA-752A-A). Because of the earlier Date of Manufacturing (DMF) 12APR18, it is expected that only a few Global aircraft, regardless of the model, could be impacted, and a simple validation through the OMS will put aside this possibility.

The following is the validation procedure of the TSSA-4100 configuration through the OMS:

LRU/System Operations > All ATAs > 34-00-00 Navigation System > LRU/System > TSS > Config TAB

If both PN and DMF meet the intent of SIL TSSA-4100-19-1, please follow its instructions to obtain the latest version of the TSSA-4100.

This information will also be added to SmartFix Plus, as a first troubleshooting step.
