Bombardier wishes to inform operators utilizing Collin Aerospace weather radars (RTA 4218 & 41XX) about measures to minimize downtime and save man-hours on unserviceable weather radars, particularly concerning the susceptibility of the antenna plate to damage during transportation.
To mitigate these issues, operators are urged to adhere to proper packing instructions, which include, but are not limited to, the following steps:
a. Applying electrostatic caps on RTA connectors;
b. Placing two protective foams over the antenna plate;
c. Installing foam tubes around the edges;
d. Securing the ends of the foam tubes with clear tape, ensuring they do not touch the antenna plate directly;
e. Enclosing the antenna plate in a plastic bag;
f. Fastening the antenna with its plastic base;
g. Ensuring the top is covered with foam;
h. Two boxes are utilized, an inner and an outer box.
These precautions are essential to safeguard the integrity of the weather radars during transit and prevent potential damage to the antenna plate. It is recommended to reuse the kit, in case of availability.
