NiCad Battery CMM 24-32-07 Rev. 6 – Improved Storage instructions

Effectivity: Global 7500 aircraft

ATA 24

Bombardier Aviation has worked with Collins in the past years to improve the storage period of the Global 7500 NiCad batteries and give flexibility to the operators regarding their battery’s maintenance. In the last revision of the CMM 24-32-07 Rev 6, trickle charge has allowed to keep batteries fully charged serviceable while on Battery Shop storage shelves. See below CMM extract:

  •  Inactive Stand-by Storage

    • Store the battery in a clean and dry room at temperatures between +10°C and +30°C

  • Storage time without trickle charging:

    • If stored fully charged for less than one month, no maintenance is required prior to installing on aircraft

    • If stored for longer than one month, keep the battery fully discharged and perform the recharging procedure prior to installing on aircraft

  • Storage time with trickle charging:

    • When using a trickle charger, store fully charged for up to 6 months. The trickle charge should be maintained at 84mA ± 5%. (Trickle charge should be 3mA per Ah x 28Ah = 84mA)

    • After storage time periods stated above, proceed with battery deep cycle and electrolyte level check prior to installation on aircraft

Bombardier recommends that perators familiarize themselves with the NiCad Battery CMM 24-32-07 Rev. 6 – Improved storage instructions.
