Sealant application – cockpit windows Installation

Effectivity: Global 7500 aircraft

ATA 56

Bombardier Technical Services would like to encourage operators, Service Centers and Authorized Service Facilities, to pay attention to the application of sealant during the installation of the cockpit windshields and side windows.

In order to prevent possible water ingress in the structural frames, the In-Service Modsum IS700-53-7002 was published in February 2020 for application of additional sealant during the installation of the cockpit windows. The windshield and side window installation procedures in the Aircraft Maintenance Publication (AMP) have also been revised with the application of additional sealant.

Technical services have recently been informed of the presence of water in aircraft frames where windows have been installed in accordance with latest instructions.

Upon further investigation, we believe that sections of the window installation procedures may have been misinterpreted. A revision of the installation procedures in the AMP will be released in February 2021 to include more details on the sealant application:

1. Prior windows installation, it is important to inspect the condition of the sealant applied between the gaskets on the structural frames. Sealant missing or found damaged needs to be reapplied per the AMP instructions.

2. Before installing the windows retainers, it is important to apply sealant around the full length of the corner splice plates to fill any clearance between the splices, the windows and the frames. Sealant to be applied per the AMP instructions.
