As part of Bombardier’s continuous improvement strategy, we have noted that a few high-definition audio visual (HDAV) unscheduled removals (UR) were due to non-incorporation of the vendor service bulletins (VSB).
Further investigations have confirmed that these unscheduled removals of the HDAV unit could have been prevented if the recommended Bombardier SBs 700-44-5009 and 700-44-6009 had been actioned.
As previously communicated in advisory wire (AW) 700-44-0699, Collins Aerospace released the recommended Vendor SB HDAV-6000-44-7, which upgrades each HDAV to MODSTRIKE 7.
This hardware modification replaces all super capacitors on the power supply circuit card, which can degrade over time due to high temperature exposure. This modification will prevent intermittent HDAV failures on cabin power up.
While implementing the MODSTRIKE 7, all previous modifications are systematically incorporated, such as the MODSTRIKE 6 (Internal Circuit Card Connector Pin Improvement).
The HDAV (three per aircraft) is one of the major components of the VENUE CMS, managing audio and video sources and acting as a bridge to the cabin environment controller for such functions as lighting, shades and temperature control.
Bombardier would like to remind operators of the importance of upgrading each HDAV to the latest available MODSTRIKE to prevent unexpected cabin issues.
The Advance Exchange campaign is not yet complete with a VSB incorporation rate currently below 60 per cent. For this reason, we remind operators to plan the incorporation of the recommended SB for the next maintenance downtime.
To improve troubleshooting time and reduce No Fault Found (NFF) units, the Bombardier Global HDAV Troubleshooting Aid is available on the Bombardier Customer Portal and on the SmartFix Plus web-based troubleshooting tool.
A significant reduction of NFFs has been noticed, even with a growing Global Vision fleet.
